May is Mental Health Awareness Month!

Let's destigmatize mental illness and maladaptive behavior patterns. 💯

Eating & feeding disorders are prevalent in the United States of America, irregardless of ethnicity, gender, religion/spirituality, sexual orientation or socioeconomic status.

Most people with eating disorders don't look like they have eating disorders. They are usually praised for fitting the social standard of beauty or handsomeness.

This is why I delineate between health and aesthetic/image. Society places alot of pressure on everyone to fit a standard of beauty or handsomeness. This pressure has led to reduced self-esteem, body-image concerns, body dysphoria and depression for many people battling with eating disorders.

If you are battling with an eating disorder. You are not alone. Please ask for support. #211localtherapyservices #988suicidelifeline #PsychologyToday for therapists in your area who specialize in eating & feeding disorders and are culturally competent.

If you are a citizen who cares about positive change in society - We can counterculture by praising healthy habits, character, values and acknowledging productivity from the perspective of positive, prosocial impact. Together we can make a difference, and we can change the social narrative about food, beauty, health and what matters most.

I hope everybody believes... health is greater priority than beauty. Healthy habits are the focus rather than your pant or dress size.
