This is meant to be humorous and informative. Enjoy!
Does anyone else know what it's like to be blamed for mess you didn't create? Here is the chronicle of an eldest sibling. 🤣😂🤣😂
You ever heard these phrases?
Who knocked over such & such or who started it? Followed by your parent calling/yelling your name. Maybe you heard.... I expect more from you. (With a look of disappointment on your parent's face.)
Well, this Christmas every adult who reads this post can say EL-NO, if you are blamed for something you did not do (use discretion where & how you say it - it is a powerful phrase) 😊
If you are a youth or adolescent living under your parent's roof and you don't pay bills?.......Do not say EL-NO! Calmly and respectfully explain what happened. Then, follow the rules and be as peaceable as possible. Your Christmas gifts might "magically/miraculously" disappear or something egregious could happen. 🤔 IDK... every household is run differently.
I am not going to lie, I whispered a few cuss words under my breath or thought it, in the presence of my parents (as a youth). I learned my lesson the tough way.🤦🏽♀️ IJS. 🤷🏾♀️
However, responding calmly, respectfully & following rules shows you can be trusted with maintaining boundaries & you respect your parents, which is a great way to increase trust and earn privileges.
[The next step is to be mindful of your words and thoughts as a moment to moment practice. That's for another day and another post.]
Well... here's to healthy communication between parents and children - whether youth, adolescent or adult. Have a happy holiday season, families! 🎄
